Codespot announced today that it is building an Android TV-based middleware solution, targeted at video service providers. The product will be available for deployments in early Q3 of 2022.
Codespot’s Android TV solution enables the deployment of a mix of traditional video services - such as linear TV or video-on-demand (VOD) and more modern features like catch-up TV or short video clip channels. It runs on retail off-the-shelf Android-based connected TVs and streaming devices, as well as on dedicated set-top boxes, including operator-tier Google-certified Android TV platforms, allowing easy access to top-tier third-party video streaming services. The platform supports versatile network deployment scenarios, including over-the-top (OTT) or closed operator network rollouts, as well as hybrid digital video broadcasting/internet protocol (DVB/IP) installations.
"While video consumption on mobile devices continues on an upward trend, providing an excellent viewing experience on the big screen is essential to keep demanding customers happy - said Jakub Górski, co-founder of Codespot.
"Market consolidations and supply chain bottlenecks created a gap in the market. Nowadays, operators often have a hard time to continue sourcing legacy solutions. At the same time, deploying a new platform with set-top boxes or connected TVs requires complex implementation and integration projects. Economically, that has often been difficult to achieve. That is why we decided to build an Android TV-based middleware solution that pre-integrates with crucial video ecosystems and standards, allowing for a smooth network launch. Keeping in mind continuous product development, we are minimizing deployment time and shortening the upgrade cycle for future Android TV releases - added Maciej Grzonkowski, co-founder of Codespot.
